Beachy Head Marathon Success
As usual the Beachy Head marathon was a brilliant day. This is the ninth year I have organised and worked the pre and post event massage for Eastbourne council.
My colleague John Kingshot and I arrived at 7:30 to set up and advertise our existence to the runners. We were positioned in the bag store again which is great as most runners leave their bags there and see us when they get back exhausted.
After watching the race start at 9:00 John and I retired to the canteen to help the deputy Mayoress eat loads of Bacon Butties !!!
Three more colleagues arrived around 11:30 and from 12:30 when the marathon runners started to return all five of us worked continuously, with occasional comfort breaks, until 4:30 and still had clients at 5:30.
I was lucky enough to work on the overall winner who completed the course in 3 hours 36 minutes. Although he lives in Maidstone he was Swiss and his only other Marathon times were for mountain races!!! Is altitude training allowed in Sussex!!
Mostly we are asked for legs and lower backs with lactic acid rub downs being prevalent. However we had a few interesting injuries to deal with, dispensing advice and ice packs as we went.
I was a brilliant day and always inspiring to hear the stories of the runners.
